breathe life back into
this heart of stone
and quench the thirsty soil
that lies within.

i’ve chased after
illusions
and knelt to drink from wells
that could not satisfy.

and yes, i’ve wasted moments,
wasted tears,
wasted energy—
and i’m sorry.

i tremble beneath
your touch,
for i remember what the fire
feels like.
the flames singe
and burn it all away

but then you raise up
what’s left
from the ashes.
